The epic adventurous journey of a Chinese monk to India 

Produced by world cinema great Wong Kar-Wai, this epic action-adventure is set during the Tang Dynasty era where the young monk Xuan Zang, in his quest for Buddhism knowledge, embarks on a 17-year journey to India that is fraught with perils and dangers, natural disasters, and he also sees the sufferings of the common people. Soldiers gets in his way, his disciples betray him, he struggles through deserts, runs short of food and water, all in a single-minded quest for Buddha’s teachings. He finally arrives in India, and studies Buddhism in earnest. At the Changchun Film Festival, the film won the Golden Deer for Best Film, Best Actor for Xiaoming Huang and Best Cinematography for Sun Ming. It was China’s entry to the 2017 Oscars in the foreign language category.
