Moving wartime tale of a couple who gave all they had to save all they could.

Based on Diane Ackerman’s powerful book, The Zookeeper’s Wife is an important account of the oppression suffered by Jews during World War II. Dr. Jan Żabiński and his wife Antonina are the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo one of the largest in 1930s Europe. When Nazi Germany invades Poland and Warsaw is bombarded, the zoo is critically damaged. Adding to their worries is the presence of Lutz Heck, the head of the Berlin Zoo and Hitler’s chief zoologist who has an eye on Antonina. In this precarious scenario the Żabiński’s hide 300 Jews in the animal cages and save them from death camps. The film won the Truly Moving Picture Award at the Heartland Film Festival and the Audience Choice award for Best Narrative Feature at the Seattle Jewish Film Festival.
